The Rank and File (RAF) Caucus is a member-led caucus within AWU – CWA Local 9009. A caucus is like a political party within a union — a group of members who organize around shared values and run for union offices as a slate. The RAF Caucus believes the power of a union comes from its everyday members, not from officers or professional staff.
- Union Democracy: Members should control the union. We support strong member voice in all major decisions.
- Transparency: Union finances, decisions, and leadership actions should be open to all members.
- Solidarity: We stand with all workers, inside and outside Alphabet, and with the broader labor movement.
- Rank-and-File Power: Organizing is driven by workers, not just staff. We invest in member education and leadership development.
- Accountability: Elected officials must be accountable to the members who elected them.
- Run candidates for elected union positions on a shared platform
- Organize member education events and maintain this wiki
- Advocate for pro-democracy reforms within AWU's governance
- Build solidarity and relationships across AWU membership
- Provide a space for members who want to actively shape the union
AWU has an executive board and elected officers who run the union day-to-day. The RAF Caucus is a voluntary member organization separate from the formal union structure. We participate in AWU's elections and governance, but the caucus itself is independent.
This wiki reflects the RAF Caucus perspective and is not an official AWU publication. We strive for accuracy but encourage you to verify with official AWU sources.
All people are welcome. See the Join RAF page to participate.
